Swine flu:
The
Department of Health launched the National Pandemic Flu Service last

Judical Review – Justice Ross Cranston of the High Court decides in favour
of NHS Wiltshire on all counts:
Responding to
the outcome of the Judicial Review (22-07-09), Jeff James, Chief Executive
of NHS Wiltshire, said:
“We are please with the outcome of
today’s Judicial Review of the decisions we took in January 2007. We knew
when we took these decisions that they would be open to scrutiny by judicial
review. We took care to ensure that our decisions were reasonable and that
the decision-making process was fair. It is very good to see that the
judgement clearly confirms that our approach was fair and reasonable.”
“Today’s decision ends a period of
uncertainty for out staff and for the local community. I hope that we can
soon begin a new phase in the dialogue between the people of Marlborough,
their representatives and NHS Wiltshire that is focussed on helping to keep
people healthy and ensuring that they have services when they need them. NHS
Wilshire is keen to move on and to work with people and organisations to
secure a good future for the NHS across the country”
The judgement is available in full
on the NHS Wiltshire website (www.wiltshirepct.nhs.uk).
In the
meantime, NHS Wiltshire and Marlborough residents have met and will continue
to meet to discuss ways of moving forward.

fun and learned something really important for the future.”
Wiltshire
schools’ bid to become even healthier:
Wiltshire’s schools have been so
successful in the engaging with the National Healthy Schools programme that
the county has been selected to be part of a brand new initiative which will
be piloted in the South West.
NHS Wiltshire has funded an additional £87K which will allow 50% of schools
to go forwards to the next stage – Healthy Schools Plus. Maggie Rae,
Director of Public Health for NHS Wiltshire said:
“NHS Wiltshire is determined to
make a positive difference to the health inequalities existing in Wiltshire
and the Healthy Schools programme contributes significantly. Children and
young people learn skills and develop knowledge through the initiative, such
as the importance of eating healthy, nutritious food, being physically
active and developing their confidence and resilience through emotional
wellbeing. “
